What is bandwidth?
Put simply, bandwidth allowance is the amount of traffic that is allowed to your website each month. Each time someone visits your site, the web page is first downloaded to their computer and then displayed using their browser software (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.). A web page may be very small or large depending upon the amount of text and the number and size of images integrated within the web page, so the amount of bandwidth usage will differ from site to site.
How much bandwidth will I need?
Most personal or small business sites will not need more than 1 GB of bandwidth per month – however if you anticipate your site will be very large, contain a lot of high resolution images or you think that the traffic to your site will be significant you may want to upgrade your hosting plan.
What happens if I exceed my monthly bandwidth allowance?
Unlike other hosting providers, if you exceed your monthly bandwidth allowance you will NOT be charged any unexpected additional fees. However a message will be displayed to visitors that you have exceeded your monthly bandwidth allowance and your site will not be accessible until the start of the new monthly cycle. If you find that you are regularly exceeding your monthly bandwidth allowance you can upgrade your hosting plan at any time. |
